Here’s a little video that someone re-tweeted recently. It’s a perspective on the relevancy of Google Adwords and Email marketing vs newer mediums such as Facebook etc. (It may be worth pointing out that there are supposedly 700,000 Perth based Facebook users , so the topic bears thinking about)
Whether or not folks agree with this point of view, its always good to be aware of options. What’s your opinion?

$75 bidding on one particular keyword won’t affect 99% of Perth advertisers, People do click on adwords ads if relevancy is there in the ads and there are some industries that facebook just won’t give a good return from because at the moment It is to new an some consumers haven’t adopted facebook yet. Run a facebook campaign, run an adwords camapign and run an email campaign for your business. See which one gives a better return and invest accordingly. Test test test!
I made this video in a fit of rage at the waste of one particularly disastrous campaign that was run by a competitor.
I have changed my opinion and softened my stance regarding adwords and email marketing and am about to integrate them more into my strategies.
However, I have noticed that over the last few years their overall effectiveness has diminished due to the way that people use the web.
This doesn’t have to be a huge issue, you just need to determine which medium/plaftorm will be most effective to deliver your message to your audience. That may sometimes be a traditional email marketing or Adwords campaign.
I do suggest to clients to run concurrent Facebook and Google Adwords campaigns and compare the effectiveness of both.
Mal,
From your experience, what industries/products have you found were more effective running Facebook ads vs Adwords?
clothing retail ecommerce sites getting superior results in terms of cost per clicks and CTRs than similar Adwords campaign using text only ads.
accommodation – Adwords is winning here so far. So many variables to test though.
so many possible combos of images and copy in FB versus Adwords combos of text, text and images, video, mobile, etc.
It is really dependant on if the target market is actually using facebook vs Google right? CTR is prob alot higher on Fbook because of image ads ect.
